TESTIMONIALS
Nine-Year NFL Veteran:
“Dr. Joan Steidinger……. Twenty five years later, I still think about how I arrived at this point in my life. Dr. Joan is one of the main reasons it happened. Once she opened the book of my life, I watched how my life began to change in my family, spirituality, relationships, and self worth. Dr. Joan suggested I look at myself and not other individuals. This made a big difference in my ability to stay clean. God bless her for leading me to the promised land.”
Terry LeCount, Former Wide Receiver in the NFL
Mother of Student Athlete:
“My daughter, Dani, first went to see Dr. Joan in the fall of her senior year in high school. She was an elite softball player (pitcher and infielder) playing for one of the top club teams in California. Even after our first meeting with Dr. Joan, I knew Dr. Joan would help her tremendously. The first part of each session was just Dani and Dr. Joan then I was brought in for the last portion. It was very helpful for me to see what direction she was giving to Dani so I could help her on the weekends when needed. Dr. Joan had complete respect for my daughter’s privacy, only sharing what they had both agreed upon. My daughter was recruited to the college of her dreams and set multiple records during her years there. We both felt that her time helped her tremendously along this path.”
Christina Fonseca, Mother of High School Elite Softball Player
Coach:
“I always gave sports psychology lip service. Then I had Dr. Joan work with a group of my distance runners for a few sessions. The results were amazing. Every kid had a personal breakthrough in performance.”

Injured Athlete:
As a high level athlete, you learn to recover from hard workouts, from mistakes, from losses. However, no one really teaches you how to recover from injury. How to gain back your confidence, your rhythm and, even, your sense of identity.
When you’re living and playing the sport of your dreams, that sport consumes you. It becomes an integral part of how you see yourself and how you interact with the world. When introducing yourself, you may include it in the first couple sentences describing who you are. Injury can cause you to wonder if that’s still you. Are you still an athlete? Are you still a rugby player, in my case?
This was one of the fundamental issues I talked through with Dr. Joan. As an athlete herself, she can understand identifying so closely with your sport, your way of life as an athlete. Through our talks in therapy and the work she gave me outside therapy, I was able to dig into why I felt like being injured made my any less of an athlete, and to work back toward that holistic sense of self.
Outside of injury recovery, Dr. Joan had a profound effect on my confidence on the field, especially when I was entering a new level of the sport.. By helping me to focus on my specific talents and reasons for being at that level, I could enter the game with a renewed belief in myself as a player. Confidence, not cockiness, is a boon for any athlete. Without a belief in yourself, you are simply waiting for someone else’s approval and belief. Especially as a woman, that could be a long wait. If you aren’t your own proponent and advocate, who will be? Dr. Joan’s intimate knowledge of female athletics helped me to draw out that belief in myself, and become more aware of how my mental state and sense of self directly affects my performance on the field.
Dr. Joan has been an amazing influence on my growth as a rugby-player, and my recovery as an injured athlete. For that, I will be forever grateful. This is the true meaning of becoming a complete player.

Tech Executive:
“When I first saw Joan, I was struggling at work and concerned about shifts in my behavior. Over the course of the first few months, Dr. Joan helped me to identify and avoid the triggers for poor performance in my job. Over time, she helped me to identify a lifelong struggle with substance abuse , a previously undiagnosed learning disability and how to effectively treat both. I was able to unravel negative misperceptions about myself. Dr. Joan helped me navigate my decision to get married (and stay) married, to deliver peak performance at work, sport, and home, and to succeed in ways I never thought possible.
My life is richer, fuller, and one I had dreamed of but didn’t know how to unlock. Dr. Joan’s compassion, integrity, professionalism, intelligence, wit, and insightful yet direct approach all contribute to the powerful and effective practice she humbly offers to her clients.”
